Our annual event to aid children and families who are fighting the grasp of poverty. By the generosity of school supply drives and events; grants, donations, and partnerships, and with the help of dedicated and loyal volunteers, backpacks are filled with new school supplies to insure that children start the school year with the pride and confidence of a new beginning.

 

Over sixty-five per cent of children who do not read proficiently by fourth grade will suffer in poverty or jail. More than eighty per cent of the juveniles who face trial in the American court system are illiterate.

 

Children escape their suffering by travelling to another nation, their imagination, by reading. A flickering moment of hope in a child's life can be changed in to a burning desire with a simple act of caring.
